Overview:

TechNet is a subscription service from Microsoft which consolidates a huge library of technical information on all Microsoft products as well as a wealth of other material such as evaluation versions of Microsoft products, resource kits, system updates and service packs, and much more. 

Yale ITS AM&T holds a "server" license to TechNet, which allows us to make it available to the Yale community with a legitimate need to use it.

TechNet is in two conceptual sections.  The first is the TechNet "application", which provides an indexed search through the entire library of Microsoft's technical documentation including the knowledge base, white papers and some Microsoft Press books such as resource kits for Microsoft products.  The second section is a large library of updates and software.

The full TechNet Plus distribution currently is made up of approximately a dozen DVD's and CD's with an aggregate size of approximately 28 GB.

Instructions:

• All material is hosted on the server "babs.its.yale.edu". Connect to the share "TNDISKS". You will see subfolders for each of the disks listed.  Most disks have a README or other file that describes their contents.
  
  
• To install the Technet browser application, execute \\babs.its.yale.edu\technet\SETUP.EXE. This application is updated on a monthly basis so you will need to re-install the application each month to receive the new content. A "Full" Installation is recommended.

• If you are interested in being notified when Technet content is updated (usually on the 4th or 5th business day of the month), please send e-mail to Ken Hoover.

• Windows Vista Beta 1 is now part of Technet! There is an ISO image for the x86 version in the iso-images folder and the key code is in a .txt file. We do not have a key code for the x64 version of Vista yet.
